Professional Accountability, Standards of Practice, and Professional Development Paper

Becoming a professional nurse recognized in the US requires nurse students to attain specific qualifications that would approve their professionalism in nursing. In Texas, the Nurse Practice Act (NPA) determines the legal aspect of nursing practice for professional nurses. The state Act defines professional nursing as performing actions that require skills and exceptional judgment of nurses (Harper et al., 2017).

The nursing scope and standard consist of different components. The US government expects all nursing organizations to start their standards of practice by addressing essential issues such as how, why, when, what, where, and who. The “who” starts by recognizing registered nurses and Texas’s advanced practice registered nurses. The “who” further defines the nurses with competent education and active license in the nursing practice (Harper et al., 2017). Again, “why” defines the gap that the organization would be filling in the nursing practice. “How” determines the process of becoming a professional nurse from schooling and the experiences gained in practice. The NPA establishes the legal authority for professional registered nurses.

The Board licenses the qualified nurses, regulates their practice, and investigates any alleged violation of the Act. The Board governs the conduct of registered in Texas as they have the power to deregister a nurse from practices after examining the kind of violation made by nurses (Harper & Maloney, 2017). The Board manages the quality of the care delivery in Texas because they have the legal authority on the level of quality required for the licensed professionals. The standards of practice affect the quality-of-service delivery in my area of expertise. The standard ensures that qualified professionals dispense their duties to patients to provide increased safety of patients and improved care in Texas (Harper & Maloney, 2017). The standards of practice form an essential role in defining the quality of services offered by nurses in Texas. The practice ensures that tried and tested professionals gain access to the nursing services.
