In this case, the intervention developed is the use of Fall TIPS (tailoring interventions for patient safety) as a bundled care approach to reduce falls among hospitalized adult patients in medical-surgical units by 20% within six months. The intervention is based on research as highlighted by various findings. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Fall TIPS toolkit optimizes patient and family engagement in efforts to reduce falls. The approach is not only nurse-driven but also based on evidence and leverages bedside tools in communicating patient-specific risk factors for falls. The approach implores on nurses to leverage a tailored or customized approach based on the individual patient’s situation and preferences (Heng et al., 2020). Through this toolkit, the care team gets information that it requires to engage routinely in fall prevention process in diverse settings, including acute care like medical-surgical units.

The intervention supports the population of focus since patients in medical-surgical units have weakened immunity and mobility which make them susceptible to falls (Dykes et al., 2019). The selected issue of investigation, patient falls, is amenable to the research-based intervention since it leads to increased cost of care, length of stay and even disabilities and death.
