Study Plan

A study plan is required to pass national certification exams. The students need a way to keep track of their progress and measure how well they are preparing for the examinations. The study timetable will assist me in concentrating on the topic at hand, organizing my thoughts, and determining which of the responsibilities need more of my attention and which ones I can handle on my own. Using this method of study will keep me from putting off my preparation for examinations and forcing me to cram. After doing the pre-test, I became aware of both my capabilities and my areas for improvement. In addition, I will outline the objectives that I want to achieve as well as the tasks that I intend to complete and discuss the methods I will use to assess the state of my development and the resources I will need.

After completing the pre-test certification exam, I realized that I am familiar with a greater number of themes and topics than I had originally imagined. I also became aware that I had room for growth in a variety of areas. My self-evaluation indicates that my skills lie in the areas of physical examination and pharmacology throughout the lifespan, with a particular emphasis on adult and older patient groups. In addition, I am skilled in conducting interviews, conducting assessments, dealing with intoxication and withdrawal, gathering a patient’s medical history, and identifying altered mental states.

Because I have very limited experience working with patients of younger ages, I have recognized that the field of pediatrics is an area in which I have room for professional development.Neurophysiology, epigenetics, and genomics are some of the other research subfields that still have room for advancement. I may also increase my ability to use, evaluate, and understand several instruments, such as the Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (ACE-IQ), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scale, the DSM-5, and the HEXACO (Shain et al., 2018).

Goals and Tasks

Goal 1 – Learn the material included in the textbook, paying particular attention to the chapters that address the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner certification handbook (American Psychiatric Association, 2020).

Task 1: Make use of the course manual to familiarize with the assigned readings each week.

Task 2: I need to read through the chapter once per week on Thursdays while I am off work.

Task 3: Allocate some time on Friday evening to consolidate everything that has been collected over the course of the week.

Goal 2 – Throughout the course of the semester, I plan to read the psychiatric interview as part of my preparation for the certification test (Baker, 2019).

Task 1 – Make a schedule so that I can better manage my time.

Task 2: Allocate a certain amount of time each day, namely two hours, to study for the professional certification test.

Task 3: Maintain open and consistent communication with my preceptor so that they may assist me in determining areas in which I can improve my performance.

Goal 3 – In preparation for the last week, I will make a list of my strengths and organize the subjects according to the level of knowledge I have with them (Coppa & Barcelos Winchester, 2020).

Task 1 – Keep a weekly list of my shortcomings.

Task 2: I am to use my make-up hours by my schedule to evaluate my areas of improvement.

Task 3: Make use of the weekly reading assignments to identify other areas in which growth is possible.

Ways to Measure My Progress

I am going to make it a habit to sit down at the start of each week and compile a list of everything that needs to be done for me to successfully achieve my study objectives. After each week, I will go through the list of things that need to be done and decide whether or not all of the items have been completed (Husbands & Carson, 2021). I will also utilize the input I get from my preceptor to gauge how far along I am in the process of reaching the goals and objectives I set for the test.

Required Resources

To achieve these objectives, I plan to consult several resources, one of which will be “The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Review Manual,” which will be a part of the weekly readings and assignments for the PRAC 6665 course. In addition, I will pick up knowledge from my classmates and peers via the use of group discussions and weekly class talks. The abilities I have acquired in interprofessional relationships will prove to be invaluable when it comes to the formation of teams, both at work and at Walden University, with my fellow employees and students. Using applications like Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or Zoom, we could host in-person or online discussion forums. In the end, I will evaluate the severity of the symptoms using diagnostic and assessment tools for a variety of mental diseases. These tools will include the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scale, the Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (ACE-IQ), the DSM-5, and the HEXACO. I will use these tools to evaluate the particular instrument’s other functions as well (Speight et al., 2019).

Conclusion

When I am getting ready for my national test, the most difficult part for me is not coming up with a study plan; rather, it is sticking to the plan and making efficient use of the resources that I have available to me. The major objective is to obtain a satisfactory level of performance on the certification tests, which calls for efficient use of the resources that are at one’s disposal. To ensure that I am well prepared for the next test, I aim to schedule regular study sessions consisting of distinct blocks of time. During the course of this period, I want to make it a priority to read through a vast quantity of relevant literature and academic papers to support the achievement of my objectives.
