EBP dissemination – Patients living In A 65+ Assisted Living Community Essay
EBP Dissemination
One of the important activities during an evidence-based project is the process of dissemination. Dissemination helps in translation which is key for the innovation and the new evidence to be accepted and adopted in a given clinical setting. The following PICOT question was used in guiding the project: Patients living in a 65+ assisted living community (I) does light weightlifting three times a week plus 10,000 steps a day reduce falls (C) compared to current practice (O)reduce the incidence of falls (T) within three months.

The chosen dissemination strategy is a PowerPoint presentation. This dissemination process has been chosen since it can be beneficial to the targeted individuals. One of the advantages of using PowerPoint presentations is that it allows the use of graphics and videos to enhance the output so that the listeners can have a better grasp of the contents to be presented (Astroth & Hain, 2019). This presentation will mostly benefit the nursing staff and the patients as it shall have introduced another way of reducing patient falls. The evidence presented will also have the greatest impact in the care settings involving patients at high risk of falls as it will help reduce the chances of falling. The resources that will be needed include a computer laptop, projector, projector screen, and access to the internet.
While patients can be part of the audience, the most appropriate audience is the nursing staff and nurse leaders, who will need to participate in translating the evidence to practice. The benefit of the evidence is that the patients will have better outcomes, especially the elderly living in the assisted living community, which will potentially have fewer incidences of falls. It is also beneficial to the nursing team as they will be able to care for the patients better. In case the dissemination of the evidence fails, there could be potential risks. One of such risks is a continued rising number of patient falls. Again there can be various barriers to disseminating evidence (Derman & Jaeger, 2018). One of such is inadequate or poor communication between the disseminating team and the organization. The other barrier is incompetence and lack of sufficient knowledge.
