DNP 835 Topic 8 DQ 1

Healthcare delivery safety and quality are among the top objectives in any healthcare setting.  The need to meet these objectives’ desired outcomes has been compelling healthcare scholars to devise effective measures to improve patient outcomes (Brewer et al., 2020).  The solution to the problems affecting healthcare organizations starts with identifying these problems, and then an effective approach could be developed to these issues.  The eight recommendations for achieving total system safety are connected to the entire system of healthcare safety management.

The first recommendation is to ensure leaders create and sustain a safety culture.  The second is to create a centralized, coordinated oversight of patient safety, and the third is to make a common set of safety matrices reflecting meaningful outcomes (Walters & Wadsworth, 2020).  The fourth recommendation is to increase funding for patient safety, and the fifth is to observe patient care across the entire care continuum.  The sixth recommendation is supporting healthcare workers, and the seventh is about partnering with patients and their families.  The last recommendation is to increase technology safety and optimize patient safety.

These recommendations touch on every aspect of patient safety in a healthcare setting.  Each healthcare institution needs to ensure that the factors that affect patient safety are given the attention they deserve.  Therefore, as a DNP nurse, I will use three specific recommendations to promote safety (Dhanvijay & Patil, 2019).  First, I will support healthcare workers.  Motivating healthcare workers affect their output in delivery.  The safety of patients lies in the hands of nurses, and thus, ensuring nurse well-being will improve the quality of services offered to the patients (Curtis et al., 2019).  The second recommendation is increasing funding for patient safety.  This will be important in adopting the most recent technology in healthcare that aids in maintaining the desired quality.  The last recommendation is to ensure leaders create and sustain a safety culture.  Leadership directly affects the quality of service delivery in healthcare.
