NUR-690 Data Gathering and Analysis – Practicum Task Paper
NUR-690 Data Gathering and Analysis – Practicum Task Paper
Technology is soon taking over the healthcare system as the speed of integrating technology in healthcare increases daily. This objective has increased the complexity and implementation challenges resulting in adequate measures when implementing the technology. Some IT challenges include integration issues, system failure, incompatibility, and limited understanding of the technology among nurses (Konttila et al., 2019). The current issue affecting the organization is poor interoperability because the current EHR software uses Cerner. Therefore, the purpose of this assignment is to identify specific data needed to support the EHR integration project.

Baseline and Project-Specific Data
Information from various sources will be required in the integration process. Most of the information will be derived from the current existing EHR software and the clinical workers at the clinic (Konttila et al., 2019). The patient treatment summaries and billing system will be the two main data points used in this project. In this case, the baseline data will come from the healthcare professionals who operate the system daily, while patient treatment histories and billing systems will be project-specific data.
The completion criteria are important in ensuring all deliverables and goals are met. A completed project is measured by accomplishing all tasks documented in the scope. The first step would entail reviewing the project schedule and ensuring that all the tasks have been completed within the assigned timeline (Kraus et al., 2021). This evaluation process should ensure that all the assigned tasks have been completed satisfactorily.
Steps in Developing a Project Scope
The planned HIE integration will be treated as one of the most important projects at the organization. Its goals will lso align with the mission and vision of the organization. The first step of this project is to set the scope of the project. This process entails setting boundaries through goal definition, setting deliverables, and approximating deadlines (Konttila et al., 2019). The goals and deliverables allow the project leader and team members to focus on achieving the set objectives. The next step is outlining tasks and activities. This would allow the leader to understand the constraints and develop a working budget that would allow the project to succeed. In this stage, applying team collaboration is imperative in meeting the objectives of the project.
Subject Matter Experts
The professionals required in the data collection process are the IT professionals from the EPIC company and the healthcare professionals from the organization. The IT professionals have an adequate understanding o the software, and they would readily locate the reason behind the poor interoperability within the system. The healthcare professional operating the system to offer patient care will also effectively identify the loopholes in the current systems (Chambers et al., 2022). These experts will locate the problem and upgrade it to a system with higher interoperability within various organization departments.
Interprofessional Collaboration Plan
The IT team and the healthcare professional will collaborate in the integration process. While IT professionals will be handling the software and hardware issues, the healthcare professionals will provide information on the barriers and issues they have faced with the last software. The teamwork developed to meet the set goals will define the project’s success (Kraus et al., 2021). The team must understand their roles and duties to meet the desired change.
Importance of Subject Matter
The subject matter experts are essential in this project as they have the information needed to integrate the system. The IT professional from EPIC developed the software. This implies that they understand the operating criteria and can customize the system to meet the needs of healthcare professionals (Konttila et al., 2019).
Conclusion
The increase in research and technology increases rapid changes that all organizations need to embrace. These innovations call for rapid changes to meet the patient outcome in healthcare. Therefore, data gathered from the EHR system and healthcare professionals are significant in allowing the IT specialists from EPIC to change the system as proposed. The collaboration between the IT professional from EPIC and healthcare professionals also would affect the success of the project.

Issue: Poor interoperability (Current EHR-Cerner)
Informatics Solution: Integration of HIE in the new EHR- EPIC
For this assignment, you will identify the specific data needed to support your professional project. You will use this information for the development of your project plan.
To make informed decisions, stakeholders need information based on evidence. To provide this information, the right data must be collected and analyzed. In 500-750 words, determine what data need to be collected and analyzed to complete the project.
Meet with your preceptor/mentor and any appropriate stakeholders to review what you have written for this task. Ensure all the criteria for the data are relevant to the proposed solution and appropriate for the organization.
Include the following based in your 500-750-word paper. Also include these tasks in your “MSN-Health Informatics Clinical/Practicum Schedule (work plan)”:
Evaluate what baseline data and project-specific data are needed for the project to help outline the issue or gap and support the completion of the project.
Develop the steps you will take to gather the data.
Identify the subject matter experts needed to gather data.
Formulate a plan for how you will use interprofessional collaborative practice concepts and principles of team dynamics when conducting the data-gathering portion of your project.
Explain why the subject matter experts are crucial to the project success and the role they would serve. Why is mutual respect critical to project success?
Include the time it takes to complete these tasks as part of the practicum hours.
