Professional Nursing Organizations
Professional nursing organizations refer to associations dedicated to developing the professional and personal aspects of members and advancing the nursing profession. The professional organizations I wish to join include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Association (ANA), and American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL). AANP seeks to empower NPs to improve quality health care by offering members opportunities in education, practice, research, advocacy, and leadership (AANP, 2020). AANP has a membership of over 119,000 NPs from across the U.S. Members include NPs, students enrolled for an NP program, licensed NP students, and retired NPs.

My goals in nursing are to provide my clients with excellent nursing care, become an expert in my field, and continually develop my research skills. AANP aligns with my goals and worldview since it improves healthcare quality through research and education (AANP, 2020). ANA represents the interests of over 4 million RNs across the U.S. ANA takes a leading role in improving healthcare quality for all Americans. ANA also supports nurses’ health and wellness and advocates health care matters affecting nurses and the public. It is consistent with my goals since it supports nurses to improve healthcare, which can improve my nursing practice (ANA, 2021). Besides, I can utilize its career advancement opportunities to develop my specialty.
AONL is the voice of nursing leadership representing over 10,000 nurse leaders. It aims at molding healthcare via innovative and expert nursing leadership. AONL fosters nurse leaders’ professional development through competency-based and innovative learning experiences. It also influences transformation in healthcare (AONL, 2019). AONL members include nurse leaders at each level of their career. It offers nurse leaders vital resources for professional development (AONL, 2019). It aligns with my worldview since it would help me become a better nurse leader who treats other employees with love, kindness, and respect.
