The theories to employ in NP practice will include Peplau’s theory of interpersonal relations.  It proposes that nurses’ interactions and communications influences a patient’s overall healthcare experience and well-being (Alligood, 2017). I will use the theory to create strong nurse-patient relationships when providing primary care to patients. The Watson’s theory human caring states that every patient is unique. Thus, nurses should provide treatment as per the progress that is realistic for each patient, instead of treatment founded on a general assessment (Alligood, 2017). I will apply the theory in developing and implementing treatment plans that prevent disease and promote health. In my NP practice, I will be required to develop a plan of care that will promote better patient outcomes and include a caring environment. The Transcultural nursing theory will also be used in NP practice. It emphasizes the significance of nurses being well-versed with their patients’ diverse cultural backgrounds to ensure they provide care that aligns with a patient’s personal and cultural values.

In my future NP practice, I will have the role of applying nursing theories to inform my practice, advance care strategies, and enhance patient outcomes for an improved quality of life. I will use theories to improve my NP practice by positively influencing patients’ health and quality of life (Alligood, 2017). Nursing theories provide a basis of knowledge of care concepts that enable nurses to justify the interventions they implement for their patients. I will use nursing theories to convey evidence that validates the interventions used in practice.

Virginia Henderson’s theory and Transcultural nursing theory influenced my practice. Henderson’s theory enlightened me that the NP has a role in helping patients rebuild their independence and boosting recovery speed. The Transcultural theory empowered me to provide individualized care for patients based on their specific health needs. Potential barriers in implementing nursing theories include operational challenges in systematizing nursing care in practice (Hashemiparast et al., 2019). Besides, a high patient workload may hinder the application of nursing theories in practice.
