Measurement and data analysis are some of the most important concepts in analyzing the test results. As such, it is important that analysts possess appropriate and adequate knowledge regarding the basic concepts. The basic concepts of measurement include reliability, validity, and levels of measurement. Reliability is often used to describe how repeatable or consistent measurements are. For example, in case the same person is offered the same test on two different occasions, will the person have similar scores in both cases? If that becomes the case, then such a test can be described as reliable (Ravid, 2019). It is worth noting that in most cases, measures of reliability are described in terms of exploring the reliability of tests. Reliability can be measured in three ways, including internal consistency reliability, multiple-forms reliability, and multi-occasion reliability.

Validity is the other common concept. It refers to the extent to which a rating scale or a test measures what it is supposed to measure. As such, validation is a process of collecting evidence to support forms of inferences intended to be drawn from the measurement of reference (Ravid, 2019). The most common types of validity include predictive validity, concurrent validity, construct validity, and content validity.
The next basic concept is the levels of measurement. There are four known levels of measurement. Each of the measurement levels differs from each other in terms of the meaning of the numbers applied in the measurement system. The four levels include nominal, a number function that does not have a numeric meaning; an ordinal level which refers to data with a meaningful order; and the interval level referring to data having meaningful order and has equal intervals between measurements. The other one is the ratio data (Kenny et al.,2020).
