Objective 1: By the conclusion of this practicum, I will have developed more confidence and ability in my job as an experienced PMHNP by conducting counseling sessions for every patient and completing targeted assessments daily based on my clients’ reported symptoms (Raynor et al., 2021).

Planned Activities: I will do a mental health patient’s initial assessment and treatment session unsupervised. I will also employ professional therapeutic communication and engagement methods with clients in groups or families (Raynor et al., 2021).

Mode of Assessment: Get comments from patients on how satisfied they are with the therapy they had and the positive results.

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

  • Attain advanced clinical practice knowledge to enhance the outcomes of healthcare for individuals, families, communities, and systems, particularly in situations that are rural or underserved (Raynor et al., 2021).
  • Show that you have the fundamental skills necessary to provide successful treatment for mental health while working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Objective 2: Increase my knowledge of pharmacological agents and the mechanisms of action behind how they work so that I may have greater confidence in the meds that patients receive. Following the completion of the practicum, one of my goals is to be able to properly administer medications with just little input from my preceptor (American Geriatrics Society, 2019).

Planned Activities: I plan to continue my education, strengthen my understanding of pharmacology, and learn how to mix different pharmacological modalities effectively. When recommending pharmaceutical and nonpharmacological treatments, I will use evidence-based practices to enhance the overall quality of my interactions with patients. In addition, I will investigate and have a better understanding of the prescription power that PMHNPs have in my state of practice (Chapman et al., 2019).

Mode of Assessment: Find out how safe patients are and the percentage of drug mistakes that are reported. After a period of four weeks, the treatment result of the patient should be evaluated, and both good and unfavorable treatment outcomes should be recorded (American Geriatrics Society, 2019).

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

  • Evaluate both theory and research to implement evidence-based practice into the health care provided by advanced practice nurses.
  • Utilize evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy techniques across the lifetime for the treatment of complicated acute and chronic mental diseases (American Geriatrics Society, 2019).

Objective 3: For each patient, I will formulate a diagnosis and then immediately consult with my preceptor for feedback. When making a diagnosis in the future, I will remember my preceptor’s comments. My ultimate goal for the practicum is to be able to independently detect mental health issues in patients (Chapman et al., 2019).

Planned Activities: I will evaluate the patient’s mental health by taking on challenging tasks while under the watchful eye of a licensed PMHNP, psychologist, or psychiatrist. As I continue my studies, I expect to have a deeper understanding of the methods utilized to accurately diagnose mental health issues using tools like the PHQ-9, and GAD (Chapman et al., 2019).

Mode of Assessment: Enhancing healthcare quality and patient protection. Get advice from my preceptor on how to make a proper diagnosis and how to construct a differential diagnosis.

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

  • Make use of my analytical and diagnostic reasoning skills to devise treatment programs that will enhance health, reduce risk, and maximize recovery from sickness (Chapman et al., 2019).
  • Integrating the results of evaluations with differential diagnoses may help detect acute and chronic mental disorders and make the treatment of these conditions more effective.

Part 3: Projected Timeline/Schedule

I intend to complete the 144 or 160 Practicum hours (as applicable) according to the following timeline/schedule. I also understand that I must see at least 80 patients during my practicum experience. I understand that I may not complete my practicum hours sooner than 8 weeks. I understand I may not be in the practicum setting longer than 8 hours per day unless pre-approved by my faculty.
