            The PMHNP program has been characterized by various knowledge aspects, enabling me to meet the scientific foundation competencies. I have gained knowledge regarding psychiatric diagnosis and scientific aspects behind mental health and illness, resulting in a strong scientific foundation. In addition, I have learned why it is important to use EBP in treating patients with mental health challenges since EBP is a gold standard (Wood et al.,2020). The program has also enabled me to acquire appropriate critical thinking skills for clinical decision-making.

Leadership

The experience gained in the program has also been vital in the journey of acquiring improved leadership skills. For example, I have been able to improve my leadership skills in regard to various aspects such as advocacy, professional accountability, and scholarship. I have learned that leadership is needed in aspects such as cost-effective care, access, and quality care. I have also explored various leadership programs that support initiatives key to improving the health outcomes of populations which specific health conditions (Thomas et al.,2017).

Quality

            As part of the program, I have acquired skills that can be used in applying the best available evidence and evidence-based practice to enhance the clinical practice’s quality concerning patients with mental health challenges. I have learned various aspects, such as how safety, costs, and healthcare access are related and how they affect healthcare quality (Thomas et al.,2017). Besides, I have also acquired knowledge regarding how policy decisions, financing, and organizational structure impact the quality of patient services offered in health institutions.

Practice Inquiry

            The PMHNP program has also enabled me to achieve this competency in various ways. For example, as part of the program, I have acquired skills in evidence-based practice and translation of knowledge into practice to positively impact patient outcomes. Through such aspects, I have also acquired skills to help create knowledge that can be used in care settings to enhance care outcomes. In addition, I have also developed knowledge of using clinical investigative skills to positively impact patient outcomes.

Technology and Information Literacy

            This is another competency that the program has appropriately prepared me to meet. For example, during the program, I have learned about various technology and technological applications that can be used in caring for patients with various mental illnesses to enhance care. I have also delved deeper into information literacy by exploring appropriate ways of keeping patient data private and confidential, as well as upholding ethics related to patient data (Bauer et al.,2020). As such, I  can effectively contribute to various technological applications, such as clinical information systems, that can be applied to promote cost-effectiveness, safety, and quality of patient care.

Policy

Policy forms a vital part of patient care as it may influence the direction in which patient care actions would take. Through the program, I have acquired skills and knowledge in healthcare policy, which can be key in contributing to health policy as a nurse (Thomas et al.,2017). Of importance is that I am capable of analyzing the social and ethical factors that are important in the development of health policy. In addition, I have also been part of advocacy efforts to formulate healthcare policies that support reasonable costs and promote quality, access, and efficiency.

Health Delivery System

Health delivery is key in patient care; hence it is key to understand the health delivery system (Thomas et al.,2017). This program has enabled me to acquire skills such as forming partnerships, negotiating, and consensus building which is key in driving change in healthcare. I have also acquired sufficient knowledge of complex health systems and practices that can lower the risk to professionals and patients while enhancing healthcare delivery as appropriate. The implication is that I can study and analyze resources in an organization, its functions, and structure to formulate effective ways of collaboration and care delivery to enhance outcomes/

Ethics

Ethics guide healthcare professionals on what should be done and what should not be done while offering care to patients. Therefore, undertaking this program has enabled me to learn how to participate in effective decision-making as guided by ethical principles (Thomas et al.,2017). As part of the course, I have also acquired skills and knowledge in ethical clinical decision consequences, which has been key in preparing me to apply solutions that are ethically sound when dealing with populations and individuals.

Independent Practice

Independent practice is key to offering increased access to care (Thomas et al.,2017). As such, the program has also prepared me with skills and knowledge which can enable me to practice as an independent Advanced Nurse Practitioner. For example, as part of the program, I have acquired accountability and managerial skills, which are key in independent practice. The skills and knowledge acquired will help me to offer the healthcare services specified under the scope of a PMHNP.

Plans For Social Change

            Nurse practitioners are expected to engage in various initiatives that can help improve patient and community health. One such is engaging in social change (Russell, 2020). Social change is key as it can positively impact communities through activities such as patient advocacy, hence the delivery of improved health service. In fulfilling my plans to engage in social change, I plan to be part of civic interest groups to participate effectively in community networking and mentorship programs. Such programs are key in addressing community health needs and promoting well-being. Another plan is to collaborate with the leaders of the local organizations and build a better understanding with them of how to tackle the concerning public health issues and explore effective ways of acquiring resources to help fulfill the health needs of these communities.

Legislation/Advocacy Activities In Which Florida Nurse Practitioner Organization(s) Are Involved

Legislation and advocacy can be key in improving patient care operations and outcomes. Therefore, nurse practitioner organizations should take part in advocacy activities to positively contribute to patient care outcomes and population health. Florida State has various NP organizations that participate in advocacy and legislation by undertaking various activities. The Florida Nurse Association is engaged in various legislative efforts. For example, the organization supports a safe practice environment for every nurse and patient (“FNA” 2020). The organization supports legislation that offers useful information to healthcare users regarding nursing resources and staffing in organizations. The Florida Nurses Association also promotes legislation focusing on protecting healthcare professionals against workplace violence. The organization also supports legislation that enhances the ability of RNs and APRNs to practice to the full extent of their experience and education to help improve care access and patient outcomes.

Conclusion

The NONPF core competencies are key in setting standards that nurse professionals should meet to competently and effectively serve patients and fulfill their professional obligations. Therefore, this write-up has explored how the program has prepared me and helped me meet the nine NONPF core competencies. In addition, various efforts and plans for engaging in social change have been explored, as various legislative and advocacy activities in which the Florida Nurses Association is engaging.
