Effective lesson planning is important for delivering knowledge content when teaching learners. Lesson plans can be used in various settings, including nursing settings. It is important to explore various aspects such as the lesson objectives, timeframe, target environment, teaching strategies, activities, and possible assessments that can be used (Wu et al.,2020). Therefore, the purpose of this assignment is to formulate a lesson plan to be used in my clinical settings to teach and learn about culture and diversity.

The Lesson Plan
The Lesson Objectives
- To describe the meaning of cultural diversity in the context of patient care
- To be able to describe how individual diversity can impact a professional, a patient, and their family members
- To state and explain how cultural diversity can be used to improve the care services offered to the patient
Timeframe and Target Environment
The targeted timeframe for the lesson is one hour. The target environment is nursing working in the admission units.
The Teaching Strategies
It is important to use effective strategies that can be used in fulfilling or meeting the lesson objectives (Emiliasari, 2019). One of the teaching strategies that will be used during the lesson is the lecture. This approach involves the creation of a presentation and giving the learners information regarding cultural diversity and patient care. Another teaching strategy will involve the use of a video. This will involve using a video featuring a culturally sensitive nurse conversing with a patient when formulating care plans. The other teaching strategy will involve quizzes asked mid-lecture. These questions will be asked to inform the next course of action in terms of context delivery.
Activities
Activities are used to enhance lesson delivery and engage learners during the lesson. One of the lesson activities includes note-taking. The learners will be expected to take notes during the lesson for later study and reading. The other activity to be used is narration; at least one student will be asked to volunteer and share experiences with cultural diversity in the patient care settings.
A Summary of the Assessment Types
Assessment helps in finding out how best the learners or students have gained the knowledge content taught. Therefore, it is important to use appropriate assessment approaches. Both formative and summative assessments will be used for this lesson. The students will be assessed formatively by asking short questions during the lesson. A short written quiz will also be done after the lesson to find out how much the students have gained knowledge (Dolin et al.,2018). Concept mapping will also be used as part of the assessment techniques
Rationale For the Teaching Strategies
As discussed earlier, various teaching strategies have been chosen. The teaching strategies include lectures, the use of a lesson video, and quizzes to be asked mid-lecture. The lecture method has been chosen since it can be used in teaching a big student number. The lecture method has also been chosen since it will be effective in delivering the presentation aspects of the lesson. The video as a strategy has been chosen since it is interactive and can be effective in showing the learners how to remain sensitive when dealing with patients, especially when trying to formulate care plans (Senthamarai, 2018). The quizzes have been chosen as a strategy since they can be key in finding out concepts that the learners have not gotten right or still struggling to grasp. The strategy can, therefore, help in informing what better strategies can be used to improve content delivery.
Explanation of How the Teaching Strategies Meet The Needs of Diverse Learners
Good lessons should always take into account the learners’ needs. Learners’ needs are usually diverse in any setting. The teaching strategies were designed to meet the needs of the learners. The lecture has been suggested since it helps learners who learn best through listening. The video will also take care of the learning needs of those who learn best through watching and listening (Senthamarai, 2018). The quiz method will be important in helping those who learn best through recalling and answering short questions to check the memory and learning extent. These methods will also be key in helping learners with different learning abilities to grasp the taught content as appropriate. It is important to note that the use of video as a teaching strategy will be central in this lesson as videos are known to involve learners more since they are visually appealing. This method will be used to particularly allow the learners to have a depiction of a real-world situation on how to handle patients while being sensitive to their cultural leanings, attitude, and preferences
Conclusion
This lesson plan has focused on teaching nursing learners in the admission units about cultural diversity and caring for the patients while displaying cultural competence. The lesson has been designed to take a period of one hour. The lesson has three objectives that should be achieved by the learners by the end of the lesson. In addition, various teaching methods and assessment strategies have been formulated to be used as part of the lesson.

As a nurse educator, you will be responsible for creating effective lessons for various settings. Choose a teaching and learning experience from your clinical setting. You may use the clinical experience from your Topic 4 discussion response.
Based on the experience you chose, use the engagement, student learning, and creating effective learning environment strategies that you have learned in this course to develop a lesson plan on similar content for two additional settings (such as an asynchronous online session and teaching a nursing student in the clinical setting, etc.). Use the lesson plan examples found in the topic Resources to assist you in creating your lesson outlines.
Include the following in your outline:
Lesson objectives.
Timeframe and target environment.
Three or four teaching strategies based on evidence-based practice.
Activities.
Summary of the types of assessments you would use in your lesson and why?
Rationale for the teaching strategies you implemented into each lesson and why they differ.
Explanation of how the teaching strategies planned for the lesson plan meet the needs of diverse learners in the environment.
