Redmond et al. (2018) describe the evaluation of an innovative intervention to supplement undergraduate learning of wound care. Constructivism Learning Theory informed the design of the RLOs, fostering active learner approaches. The study appropriately applied the Constructive theory since it presented learning opportunities to students that fostered ongoing discovery of relevant concepts and skills related to wound care (Redmond et al., 2018). The RLO offered an interactive environment with learning activities that allowed students to experiment and discover learning. Besides, it gave the nursing students flexibility to engage in learning at a time, pace, and place appropriate for the learner.

Redmond et al. (2018) applied the theory’s concept of constructive alignment by aligning learning outcomes with purposeful activities and assessment tasks. Furthermore, the study used the concept of cognitive scaffolding by creating situations where students felt safe questioning and reflecting on their own processes (Redmond et al., 2018).
