These standards entail the scope of practice and ethical responsibilities as well as the practice boundaries that nurses should observe in their settings. Again, healthcare organizations have professional standards of practice that nurses must comply with when delivering patient care. These standards describe the level of competence in care for each phase of the nursing process (Bryant et al., 2020). For instance, nurses must ensure that they integrate evidence and research findings into their practice, contribute to quality nursing practice, communicate effectively in different formats and demonstrate leadership in their professional practice settings.

The implication is that to attain patient safety and quality of care, nurse leaders and nurse managers will take different approaches due to their roles and responsibilities in the organization. The nurse leader may be more inclined to taking actions that protect employee’s welfare while the manager may be keen on maintaining the status quo because of their duties and functions that they exercise.

Further, they must focus on policies and guidelines that safeguard nurses and their welfare by providing professional development opportunities like improving their skills and competencies. Nurse managers should develop policies to address any practice barriers like lateral violence that can have negative effects on nurses’ overall morale and motivation to perform in their settings leading to turnover (Wei et al., 2019). Collaboration through inter-professional and multidisciplinary teams is essential for nurse managers and leaders to address the nurse turnover issue. Nurse leaders and nurse managers should institute effective communication and cherish the participation of nurses in decision-making process by soliciting their views on care delivery and areas that need improvement.
Leadership Style to Address Nurse Turnover
Leadership style and approach are essential to solving turnover in organizations, especially in healthcare where nurses encounter a significant amount of such incidents.
